According to the US Geological Survey, Vietnam has 22 million tons of rare earth elements, ranking second in the world to China with 44 million tons. Two licensed mines, Dong Pao (Lai Chau) and Yen Phu (Yen Bai), have remained motionless after almost 10 years since their licensing. The reason behind the deep processing of rare earths is a technology secret that is difficult to transfer and that the mine owner does not yet have access to.
