The mining of rare earths and other critical minerals is on the rise. They’re used to power everything from smart phones to green wind turbines.

But the history of extraction has not been pretty, especially in the developing world.

And worryingly, from a geo-political perspective, China currently has a stranglehold on supply.

So, how do we clean-up mining efforts and build a diverse network of suppliers without destroying the environment?
