    A comment on the substance of this article... i.e. Australia producing EV's


    The idea that Australian industry could catch up with the rest of the World on producing EV's shows a very poorly informed understanding of the technical difficulties. Tesla is pioneering gigapress technology in manufacturing the car body (which has required them to develop entirely new aluminium based alloys), in the EU there is a massive industry developing to produce the battery packs (with the technology changing and advancing all of the time) and in China a company like BYD is technically leading the way in battery design. To think that Australia should attempt to pick up the broken pieces of the auto industry and try to match that (let alone find a competitive edge) is a good way to go broke.

    Australia does have some unique advantages (and ASM is an example). The switch to 'green' energy is resource dependent. Investing in the value add of the raw materials is where the Australian government should focus its attention.
