    just like the first post of the thread, there is no point in assuming that university types will be much help in identifying the problem.

    the piece in the smh, was written by the vice chancellor of the western Sydney university, who is a bit perplexed about why western Sydney voted NO in the ssm survey.  in a long piece, the closest that he comes to wondering why there was a NO vote, was outlined in the following comments..


    Religion is a point of significant divergence. Only 13.4 per cent of Blaxland residents describe themselves as having "no religion" compared to 25.1 and 29.1 per cent at the state and national levels.

    Linguistically, the difference is similarly pointed with 25.5 per cent of the electorate's households speaking "English only" at home contrasting with NSW and Australian averages of over 68 per cent.

    mmm - it seems that there are fewer atheists in Blaxland, compared to the rest of Australia , and also fewer English speaking households in the electorate, compared to the rest of Australia ... well, that certainly explains the NO vote in that part of the world
