I see religion only as a salve for our 'exclusive'? understanding, as homosapiens, that life is finite. Most of the mainstream religions have the idea of a rewarding afterlife as a rallying point. That's perhaps why they are mainstream. We can't handle the truth! Its kind of weak and pathetic, but understandable because of this curse that somehow evolved and which we are stuck with. An acceptance that we are really just a bag full of chemicals, no differnet from ants and termites, is difficult for the narcissitic frontal cortex to accept!
