No, it's an archaic form of control and as a society become more educated they don't fear and turn further away from religion. That is true. Unfortunately there are still sufficient gullible people around to peddle the fear nonsense around and to murder to spread their archaic beliefs There are still sufficient gullible people around to be taken in by these tactics. The JWs and zbusc et al on this forum are members of cults that use fear in an attempt to gain followers. Many Bible Belt preachers in the USA are evidence that the technique is still alive and well.
The world would be far better off without it!! Agree. Parts of the world that are largely free of religion, while certainly not problem free are better off.
