My current (clunky?) methodology for locating an area is described in this post. [Note: among many possible issues the grid used by different companies not being directly related to Google Earth and some correction factors need to be applied.]

Cloud cover can obscure a site but there can be previous, or later, imagery that is cloud free. Play around with the date.

I am only a beginner with this and not a great fan of the current resolution available. Seems to be getting better and it is currently free.
