There are ways to try and get around it - a simple way would be to pull the slotted liner and re-run it with some swell packers and non slotted joints for the first 20 or 30 metres of the sidetrack... problem is that the JV partners will take ages to agree to this and no one can give a 100% guarantee on any potential fix.
sidetrack out of 9-5/8" casing would have been a safer option... and still is an option...
Next step is to flow the well on the ESP and see how bad it is - but I think the water cut will just get worse and worse... back to square one...
