I believe Mitsubishi only shut down once the prices,of REE got so low it was uneconomical to keep the plant open.
"Originally scheduled for October 2012, the plant did not begin operating until January 2013."
Try September 2011 and the LAMP began operations in Nov/Dec 2012.
"The opposition has recently sought to distance itself from the most prominent protester, Wong Tack, after he threatened to burn down the plant."
So much so he is now contesting in the upcoming GE13 on a DAP ticket.
