Crackers also taught us a lot about preventing fires (i was on a farm and it was November 4th) -don't know how we didn't start more, but there's the trick, we learnt the appreciation of avoiding fires and (embarrassingly) going to get the farm fire unit to put them out, (another valuable lesson not available to kids these days -where's responsibility development gone??)...Also they contributed to conservation of native lizards and small native critters, as the cats always disappeared at cracker time (where were they when you had a thrupenny bunger ready to teach a cat some humility? Bloody environmentally destructive mongrel hunting 'bastad' critters).
Maybe my views could be seen to be a bit redneck these days, but I'd dare to venture that USA would be better off if they swapped their guns for crackers. Such is progress.
