re: bj is full of it....: remember when bin laden Whether to drop the bomb to avoid having to invade Japan and suffer huge casualties and inflict huge casualties on the Japanese - that is the question you claim was considered.

And ultimately TWO bombs were dropped. Why two? Why not one?

Why indeed invade Japan at all? If America were being invaded one would expect decades of insurgency and a stiff resistance. So why invade a beaten Japan? What made it necessary?

Because the need to invade Japan was the justification for dropping the bombs to end the war to spare the lives.

    Circular argument.

In fact, the need to invade Japan was a political one. The need to drop the atomic bombs (two, not one) was a political one. It had much to do with the Russians about to declare war on Japan nearly three months after the German surrender. They did in fact delare war on August 9. That would have meant possible invasion of Japan from two fronts and the partition of Japan.

So the yamks dropped the two bombs. Two, not one. Because they would not share Japan with Russia.

    All a disgusting game.

Your father should be the first to admit that the last place to know about WW2 was from inside a camp, by the way.
