That's completely different. This had a very negative tone. In essence what he was doing was declaring, in front of the players and crowd, that the trophy had evil spirits and that the recipient would be cursed if the evil wasn't removed. After removing the evil spirits he mentioned that the recipient would be safe to accept it. it's rude and inappropriate. If he wants to bless an event (or a trophy), that's fine, but that's not what happened.
