This is the dumbest thing I've read all week.

Liquid helium is substantially colder than liquid nitrogen, so it absorbs heat much faster from the ambient environment due to the larger temperature difference. For an ambient temperature of 30degC, convective heat losses will be 30% higher if using liquid helium, and radiative heat losses will be 200% higher.

Liquid helium can absorb 20.7 kJ of heat per kilogram when vaporising. Liquid nitrogen can absorb 198 kJ per kilogram, almost 10x more.The above two facts mean that liquid helium would boil off much, much faster than liquid nitrogen in a given application.

Furthermore, liquid helium is substantially more expensive than liquid nitrogen. I don't have exact figures, but a quick google indicates that liquid helium seems to cost about 60 USD / kg, compared with just 2 USD / kg for liquid nitrogen.

This idea completely fails on technical and commercial grounds. Also, it ignores the fact that helium is a finite, nonrenewable resource, which in my view means it should be preserved for critical needs such as MRI machines, and other advanced technologies requiring superconductors.

I don't know much about this company or its prospects, but this article makes me completely doubt the integrity of the people involved.
