Renergen's liquid helium plant will make South Africa only the seventh producing country globally and with the plant in Darwin likely to go off-line soon that number might reduce to South Africa being one of only six producing countries.
Then consider the US which supplied about 75% of global demand in 2011 appear to have been depleting their helium reserves as the major global helium supplier for decades. The global supply out of the US is forecast to drop to only 25% by 2030.
Will the globe want to rely on geopolitically risky countries like Russia, Algeria and Qatar for helium a critical irreplaceable element in many industries and critical for the national security of countries like the US? I think not and Renergen's Phase 2 at about 5 to 8% of global demand I wouldn't be surprised at all to see expand to 20% to 30% of global supply over time.
