One of the things that Intel tried to do with its research community was have benchmarks developed using their Loihi chip however if they did receive back enough feedback to establish benchmarks Intel never made it public It was a bit clever by half as they thought they were the leaders and could set the benchmarks but as we know they failed at first principles and are back to the begining.

About midway through last year I found a research paper the idea of which was to compare the performance of all neuromorphic chips. Cannot now remember the University where it was done but Brainchip was not mentioned which was reasonable as they did not have a chip available to be compared. Even this paper though made the point that the chips that were available did not provide similar metrics for judging the performance of their chip with other chips.

As it was the only paper I had found I sent the link to Tech Laden and he sent it to Anil Mankar and Peter van der Made for their information and I have not heard anymore nor did I expect to about it.

I did a comparison but remember I am a lawyer based on what was published about Loihi and AKD1000 last year so it was far from scientific and peer reviewed which I think is what you are after.

I continue to look but it is a hard road. To compare they need to be edge processors not accelerators and most accelerators do not put up in lights that that is what they actually are so you waste a lot of time digging to discover they are not even relevant.

So I suppose you can rest assured if I ever find one I will post it here but my feeling is that when they invented the internal combustion engine they had something so advanced and different to the horse and oxen that they had difficulty explaining the power they produced with this lump of metal so they lied to the market and invented horse power. The comparison of chips is a lot like this they all lie in that they deliberately pick points along the performance bands to calculate power consumption, speed and TOPS. Unless you get the actual sheet which tells you where on the curve they took these measurements you cannot compare to any other producers chip. When you go to neuromorphic SCNN or CNNRNN as it has been rechristened by Vorago there is nobody doing it the same as Brainchip has a unique patent protected position.

A long answer but I hope it explains to some extent why you will have difficulty finding something to match what you are after.

Great post FF, enjoyed it immensely and loved your idea regarding the internal combustion engine and how they came up with explaining to people who only had horse & cart to compare, the difference with the steel internal combustion engine.
Horse power! Never thought to look at it from that perspective! 80 HP would be a reference people could relate to ie: power of 80 horses pulling your cart. Must have been mind boggling to them in those days. Stage coaches were 6-8 horses so 6/8 HP.

Your post shows how difficult it is/will be for BRN to truly express/show the world how different Brainchip really is to any potential competitors. So many variables to affect any comparison.
