Ummm how much of the government taxes that are collected go to "research" for renewables? If you think the government is some institution of endless benevolence you're deluded. I'd be willing to wager the direct amount (i.e. after all the public servants invovled in the process are paid) of money given to companies for this kind of research would be less than 1% of all total government taxes in Australia (i.e. Federal/State/Local).
