I've lost all faith in renewable energy targets, UN climate summits and govt schemes etc. None of these achieve anything and are a complete waste of time and money. The best thing governments can do with regard to renewable energy is stay out of industry's way.

It will be consumer demand and large industry innovation that drives the change. That's how it's been for every major technological innovation in modern times. The only thing governments are doing is creating uncertainty and chaos, which is harmful to industry.

It is a known fact that 1) most consumers world-wide (the people) want renewable, sustainable energy, and 2) most large corporations that aren't coal miners or have any other vested mining interests, want to develop and invest in renewable energy (eg Apple).
The constant bickering by useless politicians around 'targets' does is create uncertainty for businesses and investors.

While all this probably makes me sound like a rampant capitalist, the change to renewable energy is already well underway, but how quickly it happens globally, depends on governments ceasing to put barriers in the way.
