"The assertion that Renewables are cheaper than fossil fuelled
electricity generation is an oxymoron because if that were to be true
private enterprise would have stepped up and replaced fossil fuelled
electricity generation decades ago."


That is nonsensical. Why would renewables being cheaper now have led to replacement of generation decades ago?

At a deeper level it also ignores the fact that fossil fuel generation was typically state-backed at construction stage, not just the power plants themselves, but rail lines to feed them etc.
