    I think you're missing the point and you're also a bit out of date on storage.

    SA achieved over 60% renewable energy last year. No doubt it will be a higher number this year. That is an amazing achievement in emission reduction in a very short time. All achieved without storage. No doubt if they had significant storage, they might be up around 80% already.

    What SA has done is proved that you can cut emissions significantly with current technology on a GW scale.

    Yes, forms of storage will help but it may not necessarily be the big forms we are used to. Battery technology is advancing that fast and the prices are falling that quickly that it is starting to put those big projects into question.

    The old thinking that we need gigawatts of storage for months is now being proven incorrect. Just recently, the addition of syncons in SA has reduced the need for fossil backup considerably.
