Good to see that you are progressing with your activities.

It is very hard to comment on wood finishes from photos

I would make a suggestion though and that is to investigate the TAFE courses up there re some of the woodwork classes.

These have the advantage of getting technical help but to me more importantly is the tossing around of ideas with the other students as to what they do what they do and why.
You will find many of them are doing the course just for their hobby

The other thing is if you have a Skill Share or similar type of operation, or "man shed" in your area for the same reason

You would get a lot of benefit from either operation
