I don't know the extent of your proposed renovations/extensions to your existing dwelling and the type of construction and land slope etc, it would be probably cheaper for the demolish of existing and build new.
With upper level additions, the high costs are involved in all the structural changes to walls of the existing and the partial or full roof removal for beams installation and that's only if your existing footing sizes allows for the addition.
