You say it isn't all about money and then your examples of reasons why it isn't all about money are things that cost money to do?

I am aware of the benefits of living in your own house, especially from a family point of view. The people I am talking about do not have families and are just starting out.
Any tax savings they can maximise now would come in handy for when they do want to start a family and paint the walls pink and build cubby houses etc etc etc, all the things that cost money.
