Yes, without higher density we will have to continue our urban sprawl which for those living out there is not too pleasant if you have to commute into the city each day.
The real problem with Australia is we have too few cities. We have a vast amount of land but the population is crammed into a handful of cities. If we created more cities then more people could live closer to the city centre with reduced commute times.
