bundalee, you story is a very common one.
A lot less common story is of people who have not prospered by buying there own home.
The reason I brought that property was that one day I expected to get married and have kids and it would be my own home rather than renting. No expectations of capital growth
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that buying that first property for $40K that it would be one day worth $200k, $400k let alone the near $600k now.
I pay no rent and hence I can live on a low income if I had to.
