There’s absolutely no doubt that housing is stuffed.

it’s actually mind boggling that people can’t see it. It’s verging on impossible to get an affordable rental in Melbourne.

    what’s affordable?
For a single (unemployed) parent it would be circa $300 p/w

now go try and find a unit. And when you do, good luck beating the other 100 people for tenancy.

people are living in shipping containers. Caravan parks are full.

Put all of this in a blender and see what gets squeezed out the bottom.

    interest rates go up.
    Food, fuel, energy goes up
Wages can’t move. Employers can’t afford it.
Government benefits go up a massive $15 a week for pensioners. Yet job seekers who just sit on the couch get a bigger increase.
    Rent goes up.
People start cutting corners. They can’t afford to move, and they can’t find another place if they could.

something is going to give. People are going to break down. Support agencies are on their knees.

but hey! It’s ok. It’s a big country. Grab a swag for you and the family. Go for a walk and find a tree to sleep under that another family hasn’t already claimed.

can always do home schooling in the dirt with a stick.
