What is really worth noting is that Len/Ergo are experiencing similar problems at Kingaroy that they did in Chinchilla.

The MPa of the cement casing was most-likely exceeded due to an over presurisation of the cavity as Ergo was trying to create the pressure seal within the UCG cavity to prevent gas escaping through the surrounding strata.

It took Ergo a few times to get the presurisation balance correct at Chinchilla. In fact they over persurised the initial cavity so much that surface cracks appeared at ground level and they had a gas leak before they shut the first start-up reactor down about a week later.

They had to build a new well which subsequently succeeded. It would be interesting to visit the site and see if the same type of ground cracking that occured at Chinchilla was evident at Kingaroy.

Interesting to see the similarities between the Chinchilla and Kingaroy trials. Fingers crossed for the second cavity to work.
