Seems the bigger the oil company gets the less risks they take. Works for them as they have deeper pockets and don't take so much risk to find the prime real estate which they will still make a killing on e.g. BP and their entry into Senegal seems like excellent timing in that the field is sufficiently proved and still has much further upside.
The smaller you are the earlier you need to get in but there is a fine line in waiting too long.
