Update on QuantiFERON-TB
Cellestis presents to the Armed Forces Epidemiology Board (18-02-03)
On 18th February 2003, the Armed Forces Epidemiology Board ("AFEB") of the US military, a
joint military and civilian expert advisory board, met and considered the use of QuantiFERON -
TB in the US armed services. Dr. Jim Rothel from Cellestis and other speakers presented on
the subject of TB testing as it applies to the US military. The logistical and medical advantages
of QuantiFERON - TB were discussed, as were the benefits of applying the recent CDC
guidelines for-TB use and subsequent TB treatment. The presentations broadly detailed how
the use of-TB in accordance with the CDC guidelines should result in more accurate diagnosis
of TB leading to lesser treatment for TB infection in the military.
Cellestis believes the process was open and the issues clearly understood. Cellestis was
pleased with all presentations, discussions and questions.
AFEB will confirm its decision and report on its recommendations for the use of QuantiFERON
TB in the US armed services in the next 6 to 9 weeks. At this time, Cellestis will report further
