People have varying opinions on the matter which will rage on for ever, but as a society we need to re-evaluate what is good and what is considered bad.
Yes drugs can be a menace to society, so is sugar, cigarettes, alcohol, violence on our TV's, drugs large companies make, companies pumping our food with things we have no idea what will do to our DNA over time.
As mentioned before and not one person on this site can disagree with me on here and would love the debate on it - Alcohol and cigarettes are more of a menace on society than drugs. Why is that not illegal? Does more damage and costs tax payers more than drugs will ever do?
The crime does not fit the punishment. If Indonesia were serious about eradicating drugs from their society then overall your police force, clean the bloody streets of prostitutes and drug pushers who work close with officials.
In exchange for clemency they could of said ok Australia, if you would like us to spare them, help us educate Indonesians & people who come to Indonesia, help us set up drug rehabilitation centres and we will use these 2 boys to preach and educate people who are vulnerable. That is what these 2 lads wanted to do. Instead they killed 2 boys/men who made a mistake, could of done a hell of a lot of good over the next 10 years working for a good cause. Do that with all the drug mules and ring leaders caught coming to Indonesia. They don't give a flying rats, they are to busy killing innocent people over at West Papua.
You can't tell me that is a better way of using someone's life to solving and working at getting hard-core narcotics off the streets. The way they made an example of these 2 is what really gets under peoples skin. It was torture at its best.
