With Escom scrapping their planned new nucleur plant, there are no other viable alternatives to coal - SA still have the soccer world cup going ahead in 2010 - the eyes of the world will be on them - This is a real opportunity for the SA govt to gain massive credibility on the world stage by hosting a world class event. It really won't look good for them if the infrastructure isn't in place and it becomes a tournament blighted by blackouts. With this in mind, I think they will use all means necessary to assist their coal industry in powering the event, that can only be good news for us in the longer term. One potential downside is that Lukale appear to have a lot of contacts with the now deposed Mbeki regime, that might prove to be a problem in dealing with the current incumbants if government grants and loans become available in the future.
