Lucky, as I understand it (I am not a chemical engineer) radon 220 (an isotopes of radon) is a natural product of Thorium as it decays or "mutates" into other elements or isotopes... my understanding is that as the orebody is crushed the Radon 220 is released into the atmosphere but Radon 220 itself has a half life or decay time of 56 seconds making it essentially "gone" in couple of minutes... It poses no danger as a result...
Radon 222 is a natural product of the decay of Uranium... It has a half life of 4 days or so and really only presents a hazard in basements where it can accumulate because it is heavier than air... Of course because of the relatively short half life it needs to be sourced on a continuous basis through cracks in the foundation... It can be easily mitigated by ventilation methods... This is a naturally occurring gas and is found in many locations however not in any substantial quantities with REE orebodys...
As I said this is my understanding someone better qualified might have something to add...
BTW, I really do wish you the best Julia...
