Toly hit it right on the spot, it's to do with Radon atom coming into contact to air molecules and process takes place where electrons are stripped away thus disintegrating the Radon atoms, all this is happening at a Sub atomic level. It?s similar process when metals exposed to the air develop an oxide covering to protect itself. Hope this helps.
