"yuppie boomer investors" is a bit of a contradiction hahah but otherwise I do agree with you that it will be a much longer and harder road to adoption than people are expecting and the company is leading on. If you are a doctor, then in addition to the "stoic" nature you could also attest to the fact that each ward in a hospital will only get a limited allocation in the yearly budget towards new machinery/equipment. The staff in that ward will decide what most needs upgrading and that generally means hospitals dont get to just drop money on new top-of-the-range machines if the tech they've already got is working and doing the job.
The other problem with that limited budget is price points. I have a direct relative who works in a Sales/Apps Specialist role in a major medical tech company, and she's constantly caught in situations where the staff prefer her machine, but the people in charge of the budget buy a less-preferred model purely because it ends up being cheaper, and her company loses that bid.
People have also commented on why 4DX's staff costs are so high when they haven't sold anything. The company needs teams in each state/country that includes specialised technicians/engineers that can go to the sites where the machines are being used for testing and eventual rollout whenever physical servicing is required, sales specialists who will go to sites and organise meetings with the relevant staff and arrange model tests, apps specialists who will go to those sites and run training sessions with staff to show them how the machine can be used and pitch why the machine is better than whatever competition is also putting in a bid. They can't get away with small teams for this because the company needs to prove that their services are fast, skilled, and reliable so that if something goes wrong the hospitals/potential customers know it will get resolved quickly.
This is the reality of the market 4DX is entering. Being the best-in-tech will get their foot in the door of a very competitive and tight market, but their service teams will need to carry it the rest of the way and even then sales will be slow. It was never going to be an immediate market uptake even after the clinical trials were finished, because that's not how hospitals work.
