after market is usually reserved for institutional investors. You can submit an order (I’m thinking mostly sells) and it might get absorbed in the after market auction. I don’t really know the mechanics of such transactions but I’m thinking big trades where a buyer is wanting a substantial portion of stock through institutional representation after normal hours of trading so not to spike any prices (eg; the recent tatterang raid on the RRL “all or nothing” steak).
