Interested in what you've all been able to find through research about DMM's potential iron ore in the Mayoko area.
I'll put out what I've found which may be of interest:
1. Firstly a map of the area: http://www.odyssei.com/images/maps/big/republic_of_the_congo.jpg.
2. Now on the Digital Earth website we have a "super deposit" which appears to encompass the Mayoko (which is 100km south of Moanda and 150km north west of Zanaga) area.http://earth.jscc.ru/super_deposits/index.php?minx=8.33&miny=-3.1&maxx=18.33&maxy=6.9
3. Then we have references to Iron Ore estimates:
- in Zanaga:
(300MT @ 50%) http://www.portergeo.com.au/database/mineinfo.asp?mineid=mn1211
- in Zanaga(562MT @65%) and Mayoko(27MT@56-65% -possibly lack of exploration)
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:7xL6Hoxq2TAJ:www.arabsteel.info/asis2006/w_p/Africa_final.pdf+mayoko+fe&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=au
- and also Manganese at Moanda (550MT@51%) in 1964 when first mined http://www.portergeo.com.au/database/mineinfo.asp?mineid=mn1268
4.Mexivada Mining Corp were awarded licences in Sep/Oct 06 to prospect for for gold and diamonds in near surface "banded iron formations" at Mayoko and have some interesting info and pictures/slides at http://www.mexivada.com/s/Africa.asp
5. Panorama Resources back in 1996/97 had a licence in the Moussendjo area 100km to the south but civil war stopped this. Though I can't find any info on how far they got/drilling etc
Anybody else with some info of interest?
