The provision is recognised at the point the loan is made but the revenue is earned over time. So, as the loan book is growing, the provision is stepping up in size but revenue will come through later on.
The adjustment is recognised to align the two for comparative purposes.. no tricks here. If the loan book didn't grow, the provision would be relatively flat and no adjustment required.
