1.The western part of the Pedirka Basin, indeed the basin as a whole, has very limited exploration coverage for a basin with petroleum systems in the main depocentres that are proven to be within the oil window. The poor track record of success in the basin appears to be strongly related to explorers only targeting large structural anticlines.
2.Youngs (1976) expressed optimism for the petroleum prospectivity of the Pedirka Basin, but little exploration took place until the drilling of Poolowanna‑-1 in the Simpson Basin in 1977. This well discovered “disputably” a near-commercial accumulation of oil in the Poolowanna Formation.
3.Robertson Australia carried out studies in the Pedirka Basin in the early 1 990s, which included the re-processing of some of the old 1965 Simpson Desert Seismic Survey, with encouraging results. As a result of this SOC and Robinson Australia exploration, the Hallows Trend and Guinevere Structure were delineated as the more prospective leads in the western part of the basin.
