you might also remember that NDO had a 100 day window from 1st oil at Tindaloo that was tax free for any oil produced.
They also committed (6 months?) to a very expensive extension of the drill rig contract that turned the rig into an off-take vessel.
I reckon they got greedy and cut corners to try for the most oil in those 1st 100 days. result...SNAFU.
