i own properties in the LOW socio-economic space, and i actually care about the people who live there.
keep rents at a min, maintain the homes well and treat them with respect, not everybody is as lucky as me.
i also see owning these properties as a 'responsibility' to NOT go broke on them. I once sold a home to offset stock losses and the single mum with a child who had been there was distraught upset and scared about getting a new home, and I felt like sh*t about it: so I personally took a hand in ensuring that she was moved to a new home that was appropriate in price and area.
so, many property owners do more than count the cash (equity)...
