I agree with you mike. People make decisions based on their self interest, this is human nature.
It is the tax system which needs to change in order to change people's behaviour. The system was too heavily skewed toward property investment. For starters negative gearing should be abolished except for new dwellings.
Buying an existing dwelling as an investment property doesn't add to housing stock in any way.
