Shifting talent has been a professional firm problem since time immemorial.
The goodwill generally resides with the firm as opposed to individuals, except in exceptional cases where the individual has carved out a spectacular public persona and these individuals are always bound to head their own way.

There has been very little change in the large legal and accounting firms over the past 50 years other than mergers etc.

Plus, cutting the tall poppies from time to time gives the underlings a chance to grow and flourish.
I'd be more concerned if SHJ weren't grabbing their share of the 'smarts' rolling out of the university Law faculty each year.
