xenith, the "cap loss" will offset other cap gains but your "income" via the divi is taxed at the same rate...it's late but let me think....
20k of stock is 3k of divi....stock drops ~3k ex divi so you get taxed on 3k less of cap gain but 3k more of income....same thing??? I guess the one upside is the franked credit....i believe the limit is a total of 5k on all your holdings before the 45 day rule comes into play.....but I'm no accountant so dyor!
As for SIP, definitely accumulated at 34.5 today.....there was a lid at 35 most of the day. Will be interesting to see if this changes.....my feeling is that it's as cheap as it's going to get notwithstanding external market factors eg a financial meltdown.....famous last words!
