The one thing I regret is that I didn’t know I had arthritis earlier, and didn’t know to seek treatment earlier or know about pentosan development earlier. If I was aware of the problem before I had total loss of cartilage, I might have been able to stabilize with cartilage in place, or even regenerate lost cartilage, as were are seeing encouraging signs for. It would have easily been possible to change my training modality to avoid the stresses that likely led to cartilage loss.

I could see a future in which pentosan might be used proactively, to prevent the development of arthritis before it becomes a problem. I wonder if the biomarker trial could be translated to the clinic, as a screening test for active progression of incipient arthritis. Imagine if it were available as an elective treatment, say, every 5 years from age 50 for asymptomatic individuals. It would be more effective in the early asymptomatic stage while there is still intact cartilage. Almost like a vaccination against arthritis. Imagine the size of that market.
