Resort to Seek Damages for Weather Forecast
The mayor of a Belgian seaside resort has said he plans to take a newspaper and a meteorological service to court over a gloomy weather forecast that led to scores of holiday cancellations.
"I can no longer bear this system of lies," Leopold Lippens, mayor of the town of Knokke-Heist, near Bruges, told German newspaper Die Welt. The 70-year-old said he would seek compensation "because they published rubbish."
*** According to Die Welt, MétéoBelgique said it could not be held responsible for articles based on its information and that its "trends for the summer" did not amount to forecasts. "The weather is never 100 percent relaible," the service added
