My understanding is that the JV with TriOrigin is from there viewpoint a valuable addition to the tenaments that they already hold in that area. See the reference to it in the TRO Shareholder Update on the 23/1/07 on pg 2 of their Letter To Shareholders.

As you said the JV is not the main reason for the TRO share price jump but certainly adds to TRO's position in that region.

You never know with the markets as to what drives the price at any one time, but I think you will find that the TRO share price jumped around the time of their release of the announcement of the Woodlawn Underground Resource on the 26/10/06. This resource has high grades of Copper & Zinc.

I guess this shows what I was talking about before, there are at lot of good stories around at the moment and people investing in these smaller resource stocks have a lot of choice, but usually limited funds that they allocate to this sector.

So you really have to have something good to get noticed.
