    WA: Pilbara Pipeline System
    The Pilbara Pipeline System (PPS) is a free flowing transmission pipeline that transports gas from the Carnarvon basin from Karratha to Port Hedland and Wodgina. The main section of the PPS is the 219 km Pilbara Energy Pipeline (PEPL) which was commissioned in 1995. It is connected to the Dampier Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) and the Telfer Gas Pipeline.

    The PEPL was subsequently extended by:

    • Burrup Extension Pipeline (1998) – this 24 km of pipeline connects the PEPL to the North West Shelf Dampier processing plant;
    • Wodinga lateral (2001) – this 80 km pipeline connects the PEPL to the mining operation located at Wodgina; and
    • Karratha Lateral (2009) – the 5 km pipeline connects the PEPL to the Karratha power station.
    Construction of the PEPL in 1995 was carried out by BHP subsidiary Pilbara Energy. It was purchased by Epic Energy in 1998. In December 2012, the PPS became a wholly owned business of the APA Group.

    The PPS has not been subject to any economic regulation in the past. This remains the case today.
