Jan 23.07 Zinc Reserves in Iran Boost Country to Leading Producer in Middle East
Officials in Iran recently announced a 250 million ton reserve of zinc and lead has boosted the country to the leading producer in the Middle East,
Behrouz Borna, Manager of the Geology and Mineral Discovery Organization, recently announced that the reserves were identified after exploratory work was accomplished on the Mehdi-Abad zinc and lead mines in Yazd province.
“Iran houses 3% of the world’s lead reserves and 8% of the world’s zinc reserves which has prompted the organization to increase exploitation of these minerals across the country,” he added.
Borna announced that the pureness of the reserves is 7% adding that the figure is of significance according to international standards.
“With the expansion of discoveries and use of modern technology in this respect, exploration of new zinc and lead reserves in eastern Iran has been made possible,” he noted.
