I don't favour any change of the date. Not interested and would vote NO if ever asked.

However if the people of Australia want to change it, then I respectfully suggest that the day that Australia became an independent nation in it's own right be the date.

The date would be 28 June which was the date that the Treaty of Versailles was signed.

The League of Nations was formed by covenant of all the nations present when the treaty was signed and all members had to be sovereign independent nations.

This attainnent of independent sovereign nationhood was paid for with the blood and sacrifice of our WW1 servicemen, many of whom lost their lives so that we may have freedom.

If the day was to be changed I cannot think of a more appropriate date to be adopted.
