There is a growing body of literature in regards to Covid-19 and the incidence of IPF. It is unsurprising in that a significant number of people infected with SARS (also a coronavirus) also developed IPF. The news cycle will eventually turn and an increasing focus will be the long term health impact of the disease. The potential for an increased incidence of lung scarring is an ugly spectre to be hanging over the population.

The global infection rates for Covid-19 could well lead to an increased awareness of IPF and the need for improved treatments. There has been a clamour for a vaccine but at some future stage there may be increased interest in drugs which address the complications of severe respiratory infections and given the unmet need, new clinical programs.
