"A new major gold producing province has been found New gold in Western Australia's south east.
West Musgrave is 750km east of Kalgoorlie-boulder, and reaches all the way to the WA - South Australian border.
The region has a number of identified nickel deposits, but until last week, wasn't considered prospective for gold.
Beadell Resources has flagged a major resource in the region after receiving funding from the WA state government to carry out a drilling campaign.
Ian Tyler runs the geological survey department at the Department of Mines and Petroleum and says while the find is significant, because of the remote location, it would be 10 years before a mine was up and running.
"Its extremely significant in fact, its the first discovery of gold in that region," he says.
"This could rank really alongside Anglo Gold's discovery of Tropicana out to the east of Esperance in terms of opening up a completely new gold province in Western Australia."
